The effect of Barkley's parenting program on mental health of mothers of boys with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in elementary school(7-12) in Isfahan

The purpose of this research was to study the effect of Barkley’s parenting program education on mental health of mothers of boys 7 to 12 years old,with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, in elementary school. The research was semi experimental with Pre-test, post-test and with experimental and control group. The sample of research were 30 mothers of boys with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. They were selected randomly from of school boys in Isfahan. They were tested in terms of attention deficit–hyperactivity disorder, all of whom had scores above average. Then their mothers purposefully were selected and then randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. Mothers in the experimental group received 8 sessions of Barkley’s parenting education .The subjects Were evaluated by the Mental Health Inventory (before and after intervention), The research hypothesis was that Barkley’s parenting education has effect on mental health of mothers of boys with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The data were analyzed using the Multivariate covariance.The results showed that Barkley’s parenting education was significantly effective on improving the mental health of mothers in the experimental group (P0.081),and The intervention could not have been effective on the following scale.
