Is It Necessary to Create Organizational Memory in National Library and Archives of Iran

To explore the extent to which National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) as a cultural centre pay attention to organizational knowledge and staff take the creation of organizational memory as a database to store, authorize and utilize knowledge important.
Using a self-designed questionnaire, data on attain, share, apply and store knowledge was gathered. The population consisted of 253 staffs with graduate degrees, all of which were surveyed and 248 filled questionnaires were analysed. Face and content validity were confirmed and Cronbach Alpha calculated as 0.702. Chi-square test was used.
26.2% of staff affirmed that they acquire the required information verbally from the unit executer, however tend to have it documented and electronically. Almost everyone evaluated the effectiveness of knowledge and experience sharing in work processes above the average and their tendency toward sharing knowledge was high. Managerial strategies support the application of knowledge and experiences lower than average. The main reason is the negligence of skilled staff and organizational knowledge. In staff views, the requirements for knowledge and experience storage and authorization in NLAI is more than average ready.
It is necessary to create an organized system for storing organizational memory in NLAI.
