Abstract:
In this research, we evaluate the voice quality of stressed syllables in Persian. The aim was to investigate the effect of stress on voice quality in Persian. The voice quality was analyzed by two parameters: spectral tilt and jitter. The research was done by Praat. The analysis of spectral tilt (H1-H2) showed that voice quality in Persian tends to modal quality. While there was no significant difference between spectral tilt in stressed and unstressed syllables (except in the case of /a/ and /α/ in female speakers). The second parameter was jitter, which refers to the frequency difference in successive period of the speech waveform. In the case of this parameter, there was not any significant difference between stressed and unstressed syllables also. Based on the results, voice quality is not one of the acoustic correlates of stress in Persian.
