Dialectometry and computational cartography of Linguistic verieties of north Ilam province based on aggregate data analysis

Abstract:
A dialect atlas illustrates linguistic diversity and dialect areas over specific regions. The present study aimed to sketch a dialect atlas of north Ilam province, as well as to introduce phonetic systems, common for language varieties of the region, aggregate analysis of linguistic data by applying RuG/L04 dialectometry and cartography software. The study population consisted of all those living in villages with more than 100 households. Considering dialectologic and statistic criteria, 36 linguistic samples were collected from NORM speakers in 35 sites. Data are obtained using a questionnaire inspired by the "The National Project of The Linguistic Atlas of Iran", which consists of 117 words and three sentences and validated by alpha Cronbach test (0.96). The study results showed that "Laki", "Lory", and "South Kurdi" varieties were of three major dialect groups of north Ilam with 11.1%, 5.5% and 83.3% distribution index respectively.
