The symbolic concept of the Pazirik carpet motifs

Pazirik carpet, known as the oldest carpet in the world, was pulled out among Mongolian Ice Mountains of Altai by Russian archaeologist Professor Radenko in 1949. Since discovering of this product until now has expressed different and antonym theories about the originality of pazirik carpet. Most of these theories are formed on the base of exterior comparison of pazirik carpet's elements and motifs with the contemporary historical survivor. Carpet weaver's Cultural and religious contexts are the direct effect on presentation and arrangement methods of carpet motifs and structures. This study has tried to recognize the Pazirik carpet's motifs on the base of carpet weaver's cultural and
religious context in Achaemenian era (320-500 B.C.). According to this facts that primitive carpet designers and weavers in the selection of motif among the luxuriant motifs, always was seeking those that can express their idea and thought in dominated culture and society, thus studying of symbolic concepts of pazirik carpet's motifs and their design structure on the base of carpet weavers cultural and religion context in Achaemenian era could have an effective role. The results of the study showed that there is the meaningful relationship between symbolic concepts of pazirik carpet's motif and design structure with culture, art and religious ceremony of Iran in Achaemenian era. A descriptive analytic approach and library-based data collection were the research methods used in the present study.
