The Relationship among Parenting Styles, Parent's Religious Attitudes and Juvenile Delinquency in Qom, 2013

The purpose of this study was to study the relationship between perceived parenting styles and religious attitude of parents in predicting juvenile delinquency in Qom. The sample consisted of 39 delinquent adolescents (35 boys and 4 girls), and 45 normal adolescents in Qom high schools (39 non-delinquent boys and 6 girls) who were selected through matching. The research instruments were Young's parenting styles questionnaire and Allport's internal and external orientation test. For analyzing the data, two-tier correlation and logistic regression were used. The results showed that perceived parenting styles, defect / shame, insufficient self-restraint /self-discipline, and punishment by father, as well as perceived parenting style of emotional deprivation the mother were predictive of delinquency in adolescents. However, the effect of internal religious orientation on the prediction of juvenile delinquency was not significant. In addition, the results showed that the external religious attitude of parents predicts juvenile delinquency. Finally, it can be argued that parenting styles and the orientation of parent's religious attitude are effective in predicting juvenile delinquency.
