Traditional agricultural techniques, beliefs and customs and traditions in Bardsir

Agriculture was an important industry in Iran until 1970 and used certain technologies based on native knowledge. It played a fundamental role in economic and cultural development of Bardsir, a city in Kerman, and was significantly important in determining the future path of development. This article attempted to provide an answer to this question: What kind of technologies were used in traditional agriculture in Bardsir in past decades and what customs, traditions and beliefs were ubiquitous among native people? Thetechnologies used by natives were those of water supply, qanat digging, seeding, pest control, crop harvesting and crop storage throughout the year. The native agricultural knowledge in Bardsir has helped provide with the required agricultural tools using the limited facilities till the middle of the recent century. It also used native methods to accomplish crop planting, maintenance and harvesting under the influence of certain customs, traditions and beliefs. This study was a descriptive one which utilized field research and library research to collect data. Field research was conducted in Bardsir and the surrounding area including Mahmudabad, Mahunak, Gezuiyeh and Darounouiyeh.
