Effectiveness of Meditation as a Meta-Cognitive Therapy in Reducing Anxiety in Pregnant Women in the Last Trimester of Pregnancy

Abstract:
Introduction
women, due to their physiological condition and reproductive complications, compared with men, are more vulnerable. For this reason, women's health is one of the indicators of development of the societies.
Objective
To compare the effectiveness of meditation meta-cognitive therapy in reducing anxiety in pregnant women in the last trimester of pregnancy
Materials And Methods
This study is an experimental study with multiple baseline design. The study population included all pregnant women in Rasht during the first trimester in 2016. They visited a gynecologist's doctor complaining of anxiety due to pregnancy. They were asked to complete pregnancy anxiety scale (PRAQ). Based on the answers to the questionnaire from the community, a sample of eight people targeted for sampling were selected, who had high scores in anxiety pregnancy and also based on age, occupation and education, then randomly divided into two experimental groups. The first group took part in individually meta-cognitive therapy (MCT) sessions and group meditation sessions. Participants in the pre-test anxiety in pregnancy, during therapy sessions, end of therapy sessions and follow-up phase (40 days after the end of therapy sessions) were assessed. Friedman test with SPSS software was used for statistical analysis.

Conclusion
MCT and psychological treatments such as meditation are effective in controlling anxiety and psychological health of pregnant women.
