The effectiveness of schema therapy-based group counseling in increasing the positive self-concept in the street women

Abstract:
Background
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of schema therapy-based group counseling in increasing the positive self-concept in the street women.
Methodology
in this study, semi-experimental method with pretest - posttest with control group was used. The sample were 32 street women, covered in malls Welfare and rebirth Organization in Tehran, which were selected as available and they were assigned to two experimental and control groups, randomly. The instruments used were the Beck self-concept scale, which was completed by individuals in both control and experimental groups at the beginning of the study. At the end of 13 sessions of treatment, the questionnaire was administered in both groups. The data from both groups were analyzed with the use of covariance (ANCOVA).
Findings: The results of data analysis showed that group counseling based on schema therapy, significantly increase positive self-concept in participants of the experimental group (0.05> P).
Conclusion
Schema therapy can be effective in improving positive self-concept of street and homeless women.
