Imam al-Husayn's Suckling Infant as Portrayed in the Sources and Maqtals

"Ali al-Asghar" typifies the martyred suckling infant of Imam al-Husayn who was martyred in effect of an arrow shot by one of the archers of Umar b. Sad on Ashura. The geneology of this infant martyr has appeared with some variations in the sources. It is certain that Imam al-Husayn had a son named Ali. And Abd Allah the Infant was the only martyred infant on Ashura. Some discrepancies have occured in historical accounts, owing mainly to relying on oral sources and inexact quotations.
