The Role of Quality of Life in Building Social Resilience

Reducing groundwater levels and reducing rainfall in Iran, especially in recent years, have brought about major changes in urban and rural livelihoods. This article seeks to answer the question of whether satisfaction of life can accelerate adaptation to changes in urban and rural livelihoods. To answer this question, a village was selected as the sample in Hamedan province. In recent years, the dramatic decline in groundwater has occurred in the village, and along with it, the migration trend has grown dramatically. In this research, 10 questionnaires were distributed among 307 family caretakers of this village and deep interviews were conducted along with these questionnaires. Finally, through statistical analyzes, life satisfaction factor has been able to accelerate adaptation process among villages along with factors such as institutionalization, quality of social relationships and learning, and as an accelerating factor, social enhancement of resilience and reduction of vulnerability against climate change. In the end, the villagers returned to their hometown village to work outside agriculture, which was affected by climate change, in order to reach the living satisfaction of their village, along with the training they had seen in their industrialized cities. This emphasizes the role of mental quality of life as a contributing factor in adaptation to climate change
