The scale of observance of linguistic economy principle in Academy of Persian Language and Literature word selection

Abstract:
Word selection is process of selecting equivalents for foreign words in language. In Persian, Persian Academy is incharge of word selection in general and private sections. In this research, the selected words have been studied according to scale of observance of linguistic economy principle meaning ,use the least linguistic materials to express the most concepts. the selected words by Persian Academy from 1376 to 1391 are studied based on the number of words and morphemes. By surveying average of these sixteen years, selected words based on morphemes (15.98%) and based on words (45.78%) arent economic and the selected private words based on morphemes (69.14%) and based on words (26.39%) arent economic. Consequently, one of the reasons which some of the Persian Academy selected words arent common among people is lack of observance of the linguistic economy principle, While some common selected words are selecting according to the linguistic economy principle.
