Abstract:
Of The Society That Deserves Raskolnikov Sociological, psychological, aesthetical, comparative, ethical, historical and other branches of literary criticism that have gradually replaced the classical trends of critique, well prove the close and intertwined relationship of literature, science and society. Literature that as Lukacs says, reflects the reality, can’t be considered autonomous or be studied just based on intertextual elements, putting aside extratextual elements and in particular text’s relationship with the society. Sociologists find crime a social phenomenon and from sociology point of view, interpretable. Crime is a phenomenon highly dependent on the cultural and sociological structures and conditions, for whose happening an exceptional cause can’t be sought. Crime and punishment as a main part of human social life, has long been a matter of concern for literature, while it should be noted that literature itself is believed to be a social unit, subject to social order. Sociological literary criticism employs sociological criminology rules to study and interpretation of literary works on crime and punishment. In current article we aim to shed more light on one of the greatest novels of time -Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment- from sociological criminology point of view and based on Dostoevsky’s concerns and sociological viewpoints.
