The Iran Electoral Advertising Model in light of the Good Electoral Advertising Requirements

Central for holding a free and fair election is the electoral advertising as a mechanism for preparation of the possibility of good choice for voters. Free, healthy and framed election campaign are among the criteria for determining the validity of the election process and its fairness. Therefore, the electoral advertising should be a democratic process in which neutrality, respect for the dignity of individuals, political and media freedom, equality in the enjoyment of advertising facilities, regulated advertising costs, and judicial review of election promises are necessary for achieving a favorable model for electoral advertising. This article by considering domestic and international instruments examines the criteria for proper advertisement and their reflection in Iran's electoral laws. As a result, it became clear that electoral advertising in different elections of Iran is far from the desirable status due to legal, executive and cultural defects. Besides, lack of comprehensive rules in the area of ​​financing advertising costs, advertising scheduling, advertising methods and equal access for candidates to advertising facilities and media in the electoral laws are obvious.
