Modeling of the catalytic methane steam reforming process in a fixed bed ‎reactor for synthesis gas production

Abstract:
In this paper, a mathematical model was developed to stimulate synthesis gas production by Methane steam reforming process in the presence of Nickel catalyst in a fixed bed reactor. For modeling of the reactor, first the physical principles were expressed, then simplifying assumptions were described in the form of mathematical expressions and a mathematical model was obtained using conservation of energy and mass conservation equations. Using the results of the model, the distribution of concentration, temperature and hydrogen yield were evaluated in the reactor and the effect of parameters such as temperature, pressure and steam to Methane ratio on reactor performance was evaluated. Finally, the model results were compared with experimental data.
