Erdogan and politics of proximity to Russia; reasons and prospects

  The historical process of relations between Russia and Turkey shows a process that is understandable in the form of two patterns of cooperation and conflict. After decades of conflict during the Cold War and the 1990s, Russia and Turkey have significantly developed their political and economic relations in the post-2000 years. This growing trend has experienced a conflict trend after the revolutionary developments in the Middle East (2011), as well as the change in the South Caucasus security dynamics and targeting the Russian fighter by Turkey. The crisis in Turkish-Russian relations led to political and security implications, including Russia's support from the Kurdish opposition to Turkey, the revival of Turkey's relationship with the US, the clarification of Turkey's position towards ISIS, and so on. But one of the issues recently received by the global media and international affairs analysts is regarding the change in Turkey's policy in regional policies and its proximity to Russia. This paper, using the theory of realism and by descriptive and analytical method, believes that the reasons for the close relationship between the two countries is because of some reasons: fears of the spread of Takfiri terrorism in the region, the pressure on the United States and the European Union, European Union policies on recent incidents in Turkey, weakening the status of Syrian Kurds and finishing their federal government, going out from passivity and contributing to the future of Syria, economic risks and reducing economic relations, but believes that these factors have led to a temporary proximity of Turkey into Russia, and this The country, in terms of energy, may depend on Russia, but in terms of politics is not, and so Turkey will continue to maintain its western framework.
