Abstract:
Like many other contemporary literary movements, pos tmodernism has a wes tern background – to be specific it has a Europe and North American origin –and it is only over the pas t two decades that it has spread to the political, social, cultural, and literary spheres of Iran. Groups of Iranian writers and poets have created works with pos tmodern characteris tics under the direct influence of this movement and with either technique-based or idea-oriented approaches. Subject Analysis in Iranian Pos tmodern Fiction, written by Dr. Farzad Karimi (1397) is noteworthy for addressing the mos t important component of the theory of pos tmodern movement, the subject, within the framework of the contemporary  Persian novel, from 1370s up to this date. In this article, we take a critical look at the book and briefly summarize the merits and the shortcomings of its arguments. The advantages of this research Include:the significance of the s tudy, the researcher’s bold determination to enter the dark sphere of pos tmodern literature, the clear expression of the theoretical foundations of the research. In addition, the ability to apply those theoretical foundations in the analysis of the selected novels while highlighting a single feature of the subject in the critique of each of the novels too rank among the s trong points of the book. On the other hand, however, entry into topics not directly related to the main subject of the book, such as the literary crisis in contemporary Iran, and a lack of explanation regarding the one to one correspondence between thecharacters of the novels and the actual social subjects are considered as the books weaknesses. Also among these shortcomings are the aimless generalizations in some contexts and the s tructural inconsis tency of the discussions especially in the final chapters of the book.
