Abstract:
Many scholars s tand agains t the application of theory, maintaining that theories exis t as mere decorative factors in theoretically focused researches to adorn the work and no more. Nevertheless, the truth is that such criticisms, which are often a reaction to mass publication of theoretical research papers, should not be utilized as excuses to neglect theories completely. In fact, if the theories are carefully chosen and meticulously applied, they can act as valuable guides for researchers.
The present article seeks to address the role and importance of theories, their necessity and, their application in literary research. Therefore, this article seeks to discuss firs t the methodological shortcomings of the book The Tradition of Script-Correction in Iran after Islam where the author does not concern himself with the application of theories in the compilation of his arguments. After which it attempts to show how the application of theories such as genealogy could give a clearer picture of the script-correction tradition.
