In Denouncing Flattery: A Critical Speech on Moral Education

Abstract:
Flattering is among the traits that are socially unacceptable and it disseminates p retention, hypocrisy and discord in the community. This study was a kind of qualitative research. Descriptive -analytical method of data analysis was used. The objectives of the study were to condemn flatter and flattering, the concept, and the root causes and consequences of flattery, recognition of educational strategies to deal with this moral iniquity was among the aims. To achieve these objectives, in this paper, an overview of the historical roots of this moral iniquity, the distinction between flattery and praise was discussed. Then the origins and deleterious of flattery were investigated. In the next step, through exploring the Quranic verses and opinions of Muslim scholars, some ways coping with flattery in "Educational Strategies" has been proposed. The most important ones are enhancing awareness and having knowledge about the danger of flattery, having decisive encounter with flattery, being indifference toward flattery, and using alternative spaces in criticism of flattery and promote the culture of praise and thanks instead.
