The effects of the transformation of the structure on landscape perception in the historical fabrics of the 12th region of Tehran

This paper presents an approach that attention to the ways in which urban spatial configuration has a distinctive roll in urban landscape perception. Especially in historic urban fabric, configuration draws the ways and represents factors that have transformed urban space during time. In Iran, the physical-spatial transformations have brought about fundamental changes in the construction and configuration of cities. The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the city morphology and the citizens’ perception of the urban landscape in district 12, Tehran, Iran. This paper based its main argument around the idea that exist significant relationship between the morphologic properties of the city and the citizens’ perception of the urban landscape. The paper uses some objective methods of spatial analysis to demonstrate how the change of morphology effects on landscape perception. As a configurationally analyses method space syntax approach was employed to evaluate the construction and configuration of the study area. The space syntax method was carried out based on the drawing of axial lines in the UCL Depthmap environment. Also, the survey method and Likert questionnaire were used to analyze the citizens’ perception. Finally, the Pearson correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationship among the variables. The results showed that the visual and perceptual of the urban landscape has a significant and direct relationship with integration of urban spaces. Also, with moving from edges to depth of urban space, intelligibility and perception of the urban landscape decrease dramatically within the study area. Thus modernization and renovation of the historical fabric has been unbreakable in the continuous reproduction of the landscape.
