A Survey on Promoting Self-directed Learning Readiness Scale by Utilizing Concept Maps and Collaborative Learning in Information Science and Knowledge Studies (Case Study: University of Tehran)

This study aims to discover self-directed learning’s components among the university students studying in the field of Information Science and Knowledge Studies, as well as to apply two new teaching methods including concept maps and collaborative learning. Considering the type of data collection, this research is classified as the semi-experimental method along with pre-test and post-test. Firstly, the influential elements impacting on self-directed learning and its different components were discovered by text analysis method. Then, the Fisher’s questionnaire was used to measure the self-directed learning’s components of the mentioned students in the pre-test stage. Improving the self-directed learning’s components, two new teaching methods including concept maps and collaborative learning were applied. Finally, the Fisher’s questionnaire was used for the post-test stage. The findings indicate that utilizing collaborative learning has a meaningful impact on the self-directed learning’s components among the students studying in the field of Information Science and Knowledge Studies in University of Tehran, while concept map method has no such meaningful impact.
