Effect of Teacher Training Centers on Student-Teachers’ Knowledge, Attitudes and Skills of Information Technology

Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was investigating the effect of teacher training centers on studentteachers’ information technology knowledge, attitudes and skills in Sanandaj city in 2012-2013 school year. The research method of this study is a descriptive survey. The population of the study included all studentteachers of Sanandaj city from whom 260 female and male student-teachers were selected using Krejice and Morgan table and randomized stratified sampling technique. The tool of study is a researcher made questionnaire including three factors such as technology knowledge (first 13 items first), attitude (items 14 to 26), and skill (items 27 to 35) using the Likert scale as the spectrum is very low, low, high and take on too much. Reliability was estimated using Cronbach's alpha and its face and content validity was confirmed by 5 experts of educational sciences. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistical methods (t independent and t single sample). The results showed that the teacher training centers had a strong effect on knowledge and attitude of student-teachers’ information technology and an average impact on skills in information technology competencies. The student teachers’ beliefs on the performance of training centers dealing with training ICT skills showed that this effect was average. Also, this study shows that there is no significant difference between the knowledge and attitude towards ICT among female and male students. However, the level of ICT skill of male student- teachers was higher than female student-teachers.
