Technological Framing of Online News (A Comparative Study Between Press TV and CNN Websites for News Coverage of U.S Withdrawal from JCPOA)
With increasing advances in technology and the importance of delivering news online, also in line with today’s audience preferences, structural and technological frames have played an importance role in providing more information to the audience in the least time and limited space of news websites. The purpose of this study is to know how multimedia are used as technological frames in news websites. For this, two Press TV and CNN websites have been compared for news coverage of U.S Withdrawal from JCPOA.
in this study, a quantitative content analysis method has been used. The statistical community comprises all the news published from the date of the American withdrawal from JCPOA to 20 days.
Press TV website has used photo as multimedia preference (78.8 percent) while CNN website has benefited from video (by 90.1 percent). The length of the videos being prioritized on the first page of CNN website was by 42.9 percent at short length and accordance with today’s audience fast and scanning view of the website. On Press TV website all the videos needed to be played by a click while on CNN website 74.7 percent of the videos played automatically.
CNN’s website uses the convergence capacity of multimedia to give maximum information to the audience in the limited space of the website. Technological framing of news on Press TV and CNN websites is done by using multimedia differently.
