Correlation between Operating Room Supervisors Leadership Style and Operating Room Technologists Self-Efficacy

Abstract:
Introduction

Self-efficacy is a person's belief in the ability and power to perform a task. Managers who somehow have complete control over their employees can play a valuable role in empowering their staff. This study was conducted to determ the relationship between the leadership style of the operating room head nurses and job self-efficacy of operating room technologists in the educational and medical hospitals affiliated to Iran University of Medical Sciences in 2017-2018

methods

This descriptive-analytic study was conduct  on 200 operation room technologist. The instrument used was a questionnaire of demographic characteristics, multi-factor leadership style questionnaire (MLQ) and job self-efficacy questionnaire (JESQ). Data analyzsis was counducted whit SPSS version 21.

Results

The results revealed that the dominant leadership style of the operating room head nurses was transformational (65.5%). The job self-efficacy of majority (71.4%) of operating room technologists was at the high level. There was a significant relationship between the transformational  leadership style and task oriented leadership styles and non-interventional leadership style the of the operating room head nurses with the job self-efficacy of the operating room technologists (p<0/05). Also, there was no significant relationship between the transformational, task- oriented, non- interventional leadership styles of headroom nurses with the demographic characteristics of the operating room technologists (p>0/05).

Conclusion

This study Results showed that the level of job self-efficacy of technologists has increased in all three types of leadership styles of head nurse; so, the operating room head nurse require to the training course for more perception of the leadership styles and apply them in suitable situations.
