Experimental Study of the Influence of Nanoparticles on the Tribological Properties of Biological Lubricants

Abstract:
To achieve a high-performance additive to improve lubricant quality, increasing its lifespan and efficiency, as well as environmental compatibility, recycling capability and reducing production costs and processing are among the key challenges facing the lubrication industry in the country. In this study, the effect of titanium dioxide nanoparticles as an additive with concentrations of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 wt% were investigated on tribological properties of lubricants using pin-disk test method. According to importance of condition monitoring on oil analysis and analysis element of erosion, after the wear tests, coefficient of friction and  thermal conductivity coefficient,the best sample was chosen and used in the single-cylinder Honda CDI-125 motorcycle. According to the results of the tests, it was found that the nano-lubricant with a concentration of 0.5% by weight has the best performance. In other words, increasing the weight concentration of nanoparticles as an additive in epoxy biofuel has a positive effect on improving anti-wear properties and friction. Also the elemental analysis results showed that the application of a nano-lubricant did not have a positive effect on reducing the erosion elements of iron, chromium, aluminum, tin and nickel, but the erosion elements of   copper, lead and molybdenum decreased.
