Spectral Angle Mapping (SAM) Using JHU & USGS Spectral Library (Case Study: Firouzabad Salt Domes, Fars)

Nowadays, with the advancement of remote sensing technology, its application has been developed in various fields such as resource management, agriculture, mineral exploration and etc. Spectral data recording of various phenomena with high bands and very low bandwidth is the creation of a continuous spectral profile called spectral curve. Under laboratory conditions, the resulting curves are stored in a database called spectral library and used as reference spectra to compare with resampled spectra by different sensors. The ASTER sensor, due to its more number of bands than older multispectral sensors, has a greater capability to perform spectral processing and can perform advanced spectral processing that is specifically to the processing of hyperspectral data. Spectral angle mapping (SAM) processing was performed to enhance the lithological and mineralogical units of the Firouzabad salt domes, Fars (Konarsiah & Jahani) using laboratory spectra (USGS, JHU). Due to the mineralogical and lithological composition of the salt domes is mainly of gypsum, anhydrite, halite, lime, shale, clay and marl; enhancements of clay, lime and gypseous units are the result of the process. The results were compared with geological map, field observations and the accuracy of processing was evaluated.
