Investigating Biogas Technology Challenges t Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats
Utilizing biogas because of its environmental protection benefits as well as economic efficiency has gained increasin weaknesses, threats and opportunities in the establishment of biogas plants in Iran. The research method is based on library studies and descriptive previous scientific literature published in articles, books, and journal reports to identify the challenges facing existing biogas plants. The findings were manually filtered to include only relevant publications, which led to the selection of features of biogas plants discussed in the selected studies, the articles were classified based on the following characteristics: study location, the platform used in the biogas plant, biogas plant capacity, and examined and categorized into three groups: technical, financial, and social factors. The key findings in each challenge were summarized in separate tables; and finally, the st weaknesses, threats, and opportunities were identified. The resultsreveal that the technology has various strengths including advanced technology, high efficiency, less environmental impact, lower greenhouse gas emissions, renewable capacity, reus energy, usable by waste landfills. The weaknesses of such factories comprise high investment capital, lack of profitability without consider knowledge and sufficient experience (especially in the case of bacteria used in the biogas production process), and high maintenance costs.
