Effects of the theory- based education program on the effective factor Substance abuse in Hamadan bus drivers

Driving under the influence of drugs is considered as a social pathology that makes adverse effects on a society. In this regard theory of planned behavior is one of the strategies in the prevention of substance abuse. This study aimed to investigate the impact of substance abuse prevention education program utilizing this theory. This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 80 bus drivers of transportation terminals in Hamadan. Bus drivers were randomly divided into two groups. After diagnostic evaluation to determine the best predictive factor for substance abuse, educational program on the prevention and skills to resist drug abuse for three sessions were designed and implemented. Data collection tool was a questionnaire consisted demographic information and the theory of planned behavior constructs. Effect of educational intervention on behavior was assessed two months after the last training session. SPSS-16 was employed for data analysis. Results showed that after educational intervention, the average rates of constructs of the theory of planned behavior (attitude, subjective norms, behavioral and intention) in intervention group significantly increased but the mentioned changes were not significant in the control group. The results showed that using the theory of planned behavior along with the training skills to resist drug abuse have significant impact on creating a psychiatric immunization and refusal drug abuse psychoactive substance abuse in drivers.
