Investigating the Compliance of Food Labeling Requirements and Rules in Leading and Islamic Countries with Iranian Rules (A Comparative Study)

Food labeling is the most of essential data to consumers. The different physical conditions, due to people demand variety of contents and information on labels. Growing use of packaged products, the growth of people's culture and tending community with health, labeling is a significant instrument to inform consumers that it should be optimally and efficiently utilized. In this review study the laws and rules of labeling in Canada, England, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, the European Union and comission Alimentarus codex were surveyed and compared with rules in Iran. The result shows that 90% of international laws on food labeling in different countries have adopted with Iran and according to previous studies, there are the abundance of information, insufficient time to read and search for information at the time of purchase, the illegibility of some information on the labels and their distortion, incomprehensibility of the information. Food label is a tool for evaluation the quality health of products and will act as a part in decrease non-communities diseases. This study shows that there is a necessity for coordination in design food labeling in all of the products to avoid of confusion consumer’s in the area of food labels.
