An Analysis of Divergences in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the Basis of Cantori & Spiegel’s Theory with Emphasis on the Islamic Republic of Iran

Countries try to achieve convergence on the basis of their features in the regional arena. Countries in search of unity need convergence components such as common geopolitics, shared religion, etc. Otherwise, the relationship may turn into divergence. This type of divergence is evident among the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in its relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Accordingly, this study aims at investigating the factors, based on Cantori & Spiegel’s convergence Theory, affecting the divergences of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation after the Islamic Revolution. The research hypothesizes that the relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation suffers from significant divergence on the basis of structural, identity, and behavioral differences.  Differences in ethnicities, races, political structures, and types of political systems, as well as different approaches on regional and global developments are the main factors according to the same theory. This is an analytical-descriptive research.
