The Effect of Curcumin Loaded Electrospining Dressing on Wound Healing in Rats
Nowadays wound and its repair is important in its importance. Wound healing is a complex process that requires interaction between different types of cells, building proteins, growth factors and proteinases. Mast cell, fibroblasts and macrophages play an important role in wound healing. Recently, the use of electrospining as a nanofiltration technology that can provide the same conditions as extracellular matrix can be used. Regarding the anti-bacterial properties of curcumin antioxidants for wound healing and the properties of polycaprolactone nano-fiber scaffolding by electrostatic method, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of this dressing on wounds in rat animal model.
In this study, 48 male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 300-350 g were used. The rats were randomly divided into 4 groups. After anesthesia, in the sterile condition, 1.5 to 1.5 cm in the back of the rat was formed. Then the dressing was done as Tie over in the first group PCL + curcumin 5%, the second group was PCL + curcumin 16%, in the third group pure PCL without curcumin and in the fourth group (control) with sterile gas dressing for up to 20 days. Dressing was changed every 5 days, and photos were photographed on 5, 10, 15, and the results of the photos were analyzed by image j software. On the 20th day, the samples were evaluated for histopathology.
The results of the difference in the mean of the wound surface between the four groups were significant only on the twentieth day (P = 0.023). The results of the analysis between groups (two to two) showed that the difference in the trend between the first group to the second group (P = 0.048), between the first and fourth groups (P = 0.015) and between the second and fourth groups (P = 0.029) and also between the third and fourth groups (P = 0.031). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall score of pathology and pathological variables among the groups.
The results show that loaded Curcumin electrospining PCL scaffolds have good biocompatibility and have not shown any complications. This scaffold facilitates wound healing.
