Husayni Elegies of Muhtasham Kashani and Sayyid Haidar al-Hilli
The Ashura movement has left its profound impacts on various communities. Arabic and Persian literatures have been influenced by it throught history, hence reflected its lessons. In effect of this event, several poets have produced their masterpieces, among them, Muhtasham Kashani (d. 996 AH/ 1587) and Sayyid Haydar al-Hilli (d. 1304 AH/ 1886) in Persian and Arabic, respectively. The present comparative study touches upon their common points and the notions common to both of them. Their elegies mirror their religious devotion, profound attachment, and fine sentiments in favor of Imam al-Husayn.
