The Effect of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Group, Mediated by Social Problem Solving, on Depression in High School Girl Adolescents

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral group therapy in the treatment of adolescent depression mediated by social problem solving training. Accordingly, in an experimental study with control and experimental groups and with pre-test, post-test evaluation, 60 adolescent girls with depression were selected and randomly divided into two groups. Subjects were screened using a Beck Depression Inventory and Hamilton Depression Inventory Structured Clinical Interview for Disorders. Data were analyzed using R software. Results from path analysis showed that cognitive behavioral therapy had an effect on increasing problem solving ability (path coefficient: 0.21). Decreasing social problem solving ability has an effect on decreasing depression scores (path coefficient: 0.38). Cognitive-behavioral therapy with social problem-solving mediation has an effect on adolescent depression scores (path coefficient: 0.33); therefore, social problem-solving training can be introduced as a mediator variable in adolescent cognitive-behavioral therapy.
