Determining the relationship between self-control and deviational behavior of the youth in the framework of general theory of crime
The major aim of the current study is determining the relationship between self-control and deviational behavior in the framework of general theory of crime. The sample population includes 18 to 29 years old, male and female students of the Azad University of Babol in the educational year of 2012-2013 (5436 students). Random stratified sampling method is used and the sample volume includes 360 people. In order to collect data, a questionnaire was used. The rate of reliability (alpha Cronbach) of the variables of the study are respectively: 72%, 89%, and 78% which shows the internal correlation and congruity of the factors. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and t-test were used in testing the hypotheses. The descriptive findings show that the students’ self-control is at an average level, their deviational behavior at a low level and their social integrity is at a relatively high level. The results of the conceptual analysis indicate that there is a direct and significant relationship between self-control and deviational behaviors. There is also a direct and significant relationship between the variables of social integrity and age with self-control, although there is no relationship between the variables of gender and self-control.
