Investigating the causes of insecurity in Iraq based on the Haggett model and its impact on relations with Iran

Iraq is made up of borders that have been constantly shaken and faced with security challenges in less than a century since its formal and new formation. Acknowledging the positive and negative impact of geographical factors, in this study, the aim was to answer the question: what role did geographical factors play in creating insecurity in Iraq and its impact on relations with Iran? In this regard, using the 12-point model of Peter Haggett, an attempt was made to answer the above question, and the research hypothesis was that almost all factors of insecurity in Iraq and the causes of stable and unstable tensions in relations with Iran have geographical and geopolitical nature and many of the factors of the Haggett model apply in this case. The result was that although the Shiites are currently in power in Iraq, the ongoing tensions in Iran-Iraq relations are largely geographical and geopolitical in nature that this issue multiplies the need for Iranian foreign policy makers to pay attention to these factors. The research method is descriptive-analytical and the required information and data have been collected based on the library and filing method.
