Abstract:

In this article, the art of illustration and painting of the first and second Qajar periods has been investigated and various issues related to the flow of illustration and painting of this period have been compared. The visual works and paintings left from this land are the manifestation of the beliefs, thoughts and ideals of the people, which have been transformed under various conditions and created in various ways of illustration. Due to the fact that in the Qajar period, there were different ways of illustration, in this article, different ways of illustration in these two periods are examined. The studies conducted state that the art of painting of this era is on the shoulders of traditional painting. Familiarity of Iranians with Western ideas, paintings and their tools has given Qajar painting a new experience. The first period of Qajar - Fath Ali Shah - is the period of painters' experiments with the Farangi style and artists create a style based on traditional painting. Painting and illustration in the second period - Naser al-Din Shah and later - the European color prevails. Familiarity of Iranians with lithography, photography, etc. causes the transformation of imagery and gradually Qajar painting spreads to the social masses.
