Feasibility of the Renaissance of Tehran’s Modern Industrial Architectural Heritage Being Transformed into a Cultural Centre (Case Study: Argo Plant, Railway Engine Room, Steel Factory)
Today, modern architecture is considered part of the civilizational heritage of the countries that underwent the modernisation process in the last century. Many of these vessels are now abandoned and are scheduled for rehabilitation. Their revitalization can be an important step in improving the living space of any city and a source of influential social development in the area of citizen identity. In the meantime, many buildings with exceptional features of industrial architecture that are abandoned in the city centre or suburbs of cities may be the context of cultural events. In this study, the components affecting the revitalization of modern factories and also how the spatial configuration in the field of their structure are extracted first from theoretical studies and then analyzed through deductive-comparative methods. Data collection was done through field observations and surveys, library studies, simulations of specialized spatial planning software, as well as through the AHP method. Analysis of the results shows that visual perception is the most significant sub-indicator in the restoration of abandoned buildings of modern industrial heritage. It has also been clear that the building functional system has the highest score among the macro indicators; this suggests that the physical capacities and capabilities existing in the building or the possibility of creating new spatial situations in adaptation to the new functional plan and turning the building into a cultural center, plays the most important role.
