Identification of strategies for developing Iran's energy market in critical situations using the SWOT approach (Case study: gas exports to Turkey)

Abstract:

Nowadays, many companies make a big effort to compete in the global energy market. Although there are many performance improvement strategies that can be implemented by an organization, it is not clear which strategies or combinations are most useful in improving performance. Strategy management includes activities that enable the long-term development of the organization and help managers make decisions about future actions. On the other hand, considering the global pandemic of coronavirus from the beginning of 2020 until now, adopting appropriate approaches to critical situations for macro-policy-making in energy markets is of particular importance. The present article, with the aim of selecting energy market strategies in critical situations and considering the study of gas exports to Turkey, examines the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of this market. In this regard, first, the current situation in the National Iranian Gas Company as the second largest holder of gas reserves in the world and the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of this industry have been extracted from the perspective of the oil and gas industry experts. Then the coefficient of importance and rank of each factor in the evaluation matrix is determined and analyzed, and finally, the best strategies for dealing with critical situations are proposed. According to the obtained results, reinforcement strategies had the highest priority among other strategies.
