Resilience Model based on Personality Traits with the Mediating Role of Cognitive Emotion Regulation in Women with AddictedHusbands

Abstract:
Purpose

The purpose of this research was to explain themodel of resilience based on personality traits with themediating role of cognitive emotion regulation in women withaddicted spouses in Tehran.

Materials and methods

The present research method was acorrelational description. The socio-statistics of the researchwere women with drug addict husbands in Tehran in 1400,from which 232 people were selected as the research sampleusing available sampling method. In this research, tools ofresilience (Connor and Davidson, 2003), personality traits(McCree and Costa, 1985) and cognitive emotional regulation(Garnefsky and Craig, 2006) were used. Amos-V8.8 softwarewas used to analyze the data. Also, in order to analyze theresearch data, structural equation modeling method was used.The research findings showed that the research model has agood fit.

Findings

The results showed that the adaptive strategies ofcognitive regulation of emotion positively and meaningfullyaffect the relationship between neuroticism, extroversion,openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness withresilience, and the non-adaptive strategies of cognitiveregulation of emotion have a positive and significant effect onthe relationship between neuroticism and neuroticism.Temperament, extroversion, openness, agreeableness andconscientiousness mediate with resilience in a negative andsignificant way in women with addicted husbands.

Conclusion

According to the results of the present study, it isnecessary to plan to improve resilience in women withaddicted spouses. And health professionals and therapists canhelp to improve resilience in women with addicted spousesthrough recognizing personality traits and teaching emotionalregulation components, adjusting and replacing emotionaladaptive strategies.
