Competitive Anxiety Level of the Female Athletes

Abstract:
The main objective of the present study is to examine the competitive anxiety of students who participated in the 6th Countrywide Cultural- Sportive Olympiad for Female Students in Individual and Group Games in 2002. The determination of the competitive anxiety level of the athletes participating in individual and group games was the main concern of this research. The statistical population included all female athletes who participated in different sport fields in the Olympiad. The statistical sample involved 573 students of different universities participating in individual games (track and field, table tennis and chess) and group games (basketball, volleyball and handball).The results showed that:- The highest mean of the cognitive and physical factors of anxiety isallocated to the chess players and the lowest mean to the basketball players.- The highest mean of self-confidence factor is achieved by the volleyballplayers and the lowest mean by the chess players.- The highest competitive anxiety mean is in the chess players and the lowestin the basketball players.
