Accountability in Islamic Republic of Iran

The subject of this article is accountability in the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Today, due to the expansion of political and administrative systems and their ensuing sophistication, a need for an internal and external accountability has become prominent. The duty of government towards the citizens and the efficient means adopted by it in this regard are some of the remarkable issues involved. One should also refer to the interaction between the leadership and the assembly of experts and the three main powers and other existing institutions. Each of the three powers, besides their specific internal mechanisms for accountability in various administrative, political, and social dimensions, have methods of supervision over over one another. The judiciary stands out as one which is endowed with a specific role due to its encompassing agencies like the General Inspection Organization and the Court for Administrative Justice. The legislative power comes next due to its role in ascertaining the correct performance of other branches of government, though it lacks sufficient sanction.
