A Comparative Study of Self- Concept Transformation Based on MeSelf and I - Self Dimensions in Male and Female Children and Adolescents

Abstract:
This research has been conducted on a group on a group of children (boys and girls) between 9.5 – 10.5 years old and a grouup of adolcscents (male and female) between 16.5 – 17.5 years old in Birjand city. It is based on Dimon and Hart method. The sample spacc Consists of 50 people in each group. In this research, the transformation of self – concept form childhood to adolescence and the role of gender have been studied. The extracted result based on encoded interviews, show that the female adolescents emphasize on social issucs, and social environment has a significal place for them. the female show a deeper transformation in terms of utilizing conceptual models. children tend to emphasize on physical and active models and adolescents emphasize on psychological and social models, based on the reasoning they use for expressing their self – concept. the role of gender in transformation of self – cincept between children and adolescents is not explicitly clear, But gender discrepancy is less apparent in self – concept, as children grow up.
