Study on Separation Process of SO2 from Air

Abstract:
Sulfur dioxide is an important air pollutant which is main parameter of production of acid rain. Due to sever act, recently, the amount of SO2 in air was decreased, but, industrial separation process of SO2 from air is still an interesting subject. SO2 can be separated by different processes: 1- Separation by aromatic amines solution by Asarco and Sulfidine processes.2- Absorption in aqueous ammonium salt solution by process of Fulham-Simon-Carves3- Separation by aqueous alkaline earth metal salt solutions In this investigation, basic principles of the processes, properties of the solutions, operation data and efficiency of separation have been studied. The results show that Fulham-Simon-Carves process was applied in pilot plant scale and its efficiency isn’t comparable in industrial application. The process which consist aqueous alkaline earth metal salt solutions, isn’t efficient due to high maintenance and repair cost and precipitated solids and low degree of separation. Consequently, the processes which use amines solution are suitable ones for separation of SO2 from air.
