Study of Religious Teaching Methods

Author(s):
Abstract:
Today, various methods are used to teach religion. The author has enumerated four
Methods
argumentative, dialogue-based, narrative, and artistic. The argumentative method is the most common method for teaching religion. In this method, religious teachings are proved through rational and logical arguments. Dialogue-based method focuses on posing simple questions and subsequent dialogue about their answers. In narrative method, religious teachings are retold as stories and finally, in artistic method, various types of arts are used to transfer religious concepts to students. Further on, the author has pointed out two major insufficiencies of religious teaching in Iran: firstly, those methods are not tailored to the needs of various age groups; and secondly, less attention is paid to dialogue-based and artistic methods.
