The Meaning and Status of Expediency in Iranian Political Thought

The fact that practical politics is a function of concepts and theories has made the analysts endeavor specifically to understand the meaning and executive aspects derived from the nature of concepts in order to realize and prescribe managerial models. One of these basic concepts especially dealt with in contemporary political philosophy is “expediency”.The conceptual and theoretical rendering of “expediency” in Iranian intellectual heritage are the assets that justify our asking about the nature and practicality of expediency in Iranian thought. The indigenous nature of this analytical framework and the presence of normative elements in it are other reasons that determine the necessity of such a question.To answer this question, the writer has first, and succinctly, surveyed the main fields of political thought in Iran and, on that basis, has tried to realize the meaning and practical principles of expediency in government. The result is a relatively comprehensive picture of expediency which can be presented in modern political philosophy.
