Prediction of the maximal voluntary ventilation(MVV) in healthystudents of school Jahrom medical

Abstract:
Introduction
The aim of the present study was to measure the maximum of voluntary ventilation(MVV) in healthy students of Jahrom medical School and investigate the relationship between FEV1 with MVV.
Methods
One-hundred thirty-one healthy students (79 female and 52 male) aged between 18-24 years comprised the study sample. The FEV1 and MVV of the subjects were measured with a recording spirometer. The MVV was determined using the closed-circuit technique. The MVV assessed for 15 S and value were calculated obtain L/min. Linear regression analysis was used to develop equations to predict MVV with FEV1 as predictor variable.
Results
The mean MVV (± SD) in males was 106.5 ± 36.9 L/min and in females 71.97 ± 20.5 L/min. MVV in Jahrom students were less than those reported for some Asian countries. When MVV was regressed on FEV1, The following predictive equations obtained: MVV= 28.1 × FEV1 (female), MVV= 28.95 × FEV1 (male)
Conclusions
MVV in JahromMedicalSchool students were less than to those reported for some Asian countries. The MVV correlate closely with FEV1. We have also shown that by using predictor equations and FEV1 as predictor variable, MVV predict accurately.
