A Study of Tourism Industry in Yazd

Development of tourism industry has social and economical impacts. It creates new jobs and brings steady flow of income from foreign countries. Tourism industry also helps enhance understanding of various cultures in the world. Yazd as one of the historical city of Iran can potentially be attractive to tourists. Many historical places such as mosques, unique architecture of the city and old bazzars are just few examples of attractions of Yazd. This paper reports on an ongoing research on the tourism industry at the University of Yazd. The result of the research indicates that tourists from foreign countries are mainly attracted to cultural aspects of the city. The paper concludes with some suggestions to enhanc tourism industry in Yazd.
