Structure and Content Analysis of Likoo, In the Baluchi Poetical Folk Art
Author(s):
Abstract:
The present paper is an attempt to introduce the stylistic features of Likoo, in the Baluchipoetical folk art. Likoo is a one-line syllabic and rhymed poem. Its significance lies in itsrealistic content and choice of words, the simi lies and the dominant metaphorical features it employs and the ways in which it represents ethnic beliefs. To perform the present research, 135 lines of Likoo were gathered from sad Likoo [hundred Likoos] (Mo’meni,2005), Baluchistan News Letter (Axenov, 1990), online sources and interviews with Mokrani Baluchi speakers. Then 50 Likoos were chosen randomly and their selected lines were corrected and translated into Persian with the assistance of Baluchi speakers. The translations were then compared with the existing translations. Finally, 22 lines of Likoo that were representative of the above mentioned features were analysed.The structural-content analysis of Likoo showed that the words, similies and the realistic style of Likoo are significant, and that Likoo resembles the Kurdish beyt in structure and content.
