Application of Geometric Models and Linear Programming in Spatial Rehabilitation of Rural Settlements Case Study: Golmakan Rural District, Chenaran Township

Abstract:
Considering the widely extended borders of Iran and the vast number of villages (over 65000) employing extensive service provision strategy-or focused deployment – is neither feasible or economical nor possible, at least in the foreseeable future for all rural households due to its huge financial burdens. Therefore, new methods have to be investigated, for instance, the idea of designating certain villages as Hubs, villages which have capacities and potentials as to retain their population and to cover and serve other villages under their influence. Based on existing theories, geometric models and linear programming, this study has attempted to structurally rehabilitate rural settlements of study region and to discourage settlers from migration at the same time so as to help rural prosperity.
