A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PREGNANCY RESULTS IN ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG MOTHERS REFERRED TO THE MOTAZEDI HOSPITAL IN KERMANSHAH

Abstract:
Pregnancy in early years of reproductive period has been considered as high-risk pregnancy. Considering high prevalence of such pregnancies, this study was conducted to determine the outcomes of pregnancy in adolescents in Moatazedi Hospital of Kermanshah, 2005-2006.
Materials and Methods
As a case group, 157 pregnant women of 18 years of age and less were enrolled in this case-control study and the outcomes of pregnancy were compared 191 women twenty to twenty five years old were as the control group. The data were collected using questioners, then were analyzed with x2 test through SPSS software. The mean age of the case group was 17.22 years old. The rate of preterm labor, pre-labor bleeding, meconium passing, LBW and prenatal care was significantly lower in the case group. There was not any congenital anomaly in both groups. Newborns’ mortality rate in the case group (5.7%) was not significantly different from the control group. Maternal age alone can not cause undesirable effects on the results of any pregnancy. However, personal health care and quality of prenatal care is effectual in rate of complications
